I want to tell you about what I feel is a good way of starting expressing yourself through music in order to process emotions and regulate your nervous system.
There are techniques I've tried that are helping you to be creative and that have many good benefits. I will start focusing on singing without any demand on ourselves to sound good to train our voices. You don't have to sing in this workshop, it's more of a conversation where I share some techniques you can try. If you want to get guidance from me and other participants I will give you the opportunity to sing.
I want to be clear and say that we don't expect anyone trying out these techniques to sound good or to know how to do it because we all have our individual ways of expressing ourselves through singing. This is an exercise to train our voices and it's not in the traditional sense because the focus with this exercise is on regulating our nervous system. To some it can seem scary and vulnerable but we are here to support each other and allow each other to feel free and creative.
I've been free styling unintentionally since I was a child and it doesn't require you to have any lyrics or to know the melody which I feel is very liberating. At first it's easy to be critical on yourself but if you know in advance that there's no need to do it well or to be able to sing a whole song when you do it you'll get the benefits.
I can sound really bad but that's sometimes neccessary when you want to evolve and it doesn't affect the aspects of processing your emotions. When you have tension or supressed feelings it affects the voice and when you release it you become better at singing.
This exercise is not about becoming a singer, it's a tool that we can use to find ways of being creative and to giving ourselves the permission to be authentic and raw. To make it possible for us to try these techinques we'll have a conversation and that's because we get inspiration and we can choose to start free styling instead of talking, so it's a therapeutic way of expressing ourselves. I want to evolve you in the structure of these workshops and you will have time to ask me questions and share your experiences.
I'll write more about it when I'm ready to launch the workshop.
I hope this sounds good to you!
